Job Functions

Muscat Duty Free is looking to recruit an experienced Purchasing Manager to manage the purchasing function and implement the company’s product category strategies to drive margins, improve product offers and stock availability. Having both international and local exposure, this role should have a high degree of product and market awareness and a sound knowledge of the travel retail industry.

Key areas of responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strategies ensuring delivery of target margins, on shelf availability and purchase KPI’s
  • Negotiate terms which are in the best interest of the Company, with both international and local suppliers
  • Provide analysis, range reviews, insight and category presentations to key stakeholders with a view to drive profitability
  • Liaise with the group purchasing team and ensure that group level strategies are implemented
  • Work with the company’s retail team to ensure that best offers & promotions are implemented to maximize results.
  • Evaluate retail price competitiveness by benchmarking and implement an effective pricing structure
  • Evaluate effectiveness of product promotions and implement strategies for driving sales.
  • Review slow & non-moving and near expiry stocks and implement depletion plans to minimize losses.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers and ensure that vendor compliance is in line with the company’s purchasing policy.

Preferred background

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor Degree in commerce stream and a minimum of 10 years of working experience in purchasing, including 5 years as a Purchasing Manager with a reputed company engaging in retail industry, preferably travel retail industry.

The candidate should also have exposure to ERP systems and strong Excel is a plus. The candidate should also have an outstanding ability to communicate and negotiate with international suppliers. The culture is fast paced, be able to cope with a busy environment and be self-motivated with ability to work autonomously and as part of a broader team.

  • Qualified Chartered Accountant or an equivalent qualification

Job Profile

  • Provide financial analysis and insight to retail and commercial operations to improve performance across the business.
  • Develop & deliver financial and non-financial KPI’s to evaluate process level business performance.
  • Coordinate with IT to automate standard reports on hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly KPI’s.
  • Prepare cost benefit analysis on promotions, retail initiatives and monitor their performance
  • Provide analysis and insight to commercial business tender processes.
  • Provide analysis and insight for GM and PM prior to supplier meetings.
  • Support the management on all MIS matters
  • Meet strict reporting deadlines and be flexible to cope with the fast paced work environment

Job Profile

  • Responsible for accurate and timely preparation of periodic financial statements including cash flow in accordance with IFRS, best accounting practices and local statutory requirements
  • Preparation of accounting schedules to support balances presented in the financial statements
  • Ensure adequate provisions are made in the accounts for all known liabilities and expenses prior to completing the periodic financial statements.
  • Submission of various audit schedules and facilitate year-end statutory audit and internal audit
  • Prepare various data analysis as required by the management
  • Assist the Finance Manager and the Senior Accountant in budget preparation
  • Maintain chart of accounts and handle day-to-day accounting and record keeping
  • Meet strict reporting deadlines and be flexible to cope with the fast paced work environment



Job Functions

  • To meet the customer needs through selling merchandise, giving service and promoting ARI-ME Duty Free Shops - Oman.
  • Adhere to the rules and regulations of DFS - Oman as per the policies and procedures manuals.
  • Provide the highest levels of customer service to all customers.
  • Acquire a high level of product knowledge in order to assist customers.

Key Responsibilities

A) Selling

  • Acknowledge and approach customers, establish customer needs.
  • Present, demonstrate and sell the benefits of the merchandise.
  • Complete the sale and make related sales.
  • Make a continuous effort to have the best sales results for the department.
  • Introduce customers to other departments after having dealt with their needs.
  • Assist in any other section of the shop, which may be under pressure.

B) Presentation of Merchandise

  • Ensure the complete, full range of stocks are on display at all times.
  • Ensure the merchandise is displayed in an attractive and enticing manner to customers.
  • Handle and demonstrate the merchandise with confidence and in a professional manner.
  • Keep the merchandise and surrounding area clean and tidy.
  • Store the merchandise in a proper manner so as to avoid breakage or damage.

C) Stock Administration

  • Assist in stock control, check and count goods.
  • Maintain the highest level of accuracy when checking and counting goods.
  • Maintain the highest level of inventory control on a daily basis.
  • Take part in Duty Free stock-takes.

D) Stock Security

  • Ensure the highest level of confidentiality with regards to all company documentation, information and statistics.
  • Ensure that only authorized personnel have access to keys, security codes and passwords.
  • Ensure the proper protection of high risk stock.
  • Ensure that senior management are notified of any breach of security.
  • Ensure proper use of any special security devices available.
  • Ensure that a high degree of security on stocks and cash prevails at all times.

E) Customer Service

  • Ensure the highest standard of customer service and customer care is offered to all customers of Duty Free - Oman.
  • Ensure that any customer complaints or problems are dealt with properly as they arise.
  • Process customer’s transactions efficiently, ensuring minimum time spent processing and packing.
  • Be effective in highlighting and making customers aware of any / all shop promotions.
  • Ensure POS area is fully stocked with items for “Gift with Purchase”, the various sized plastic carrier bags, till rolls etc.

F) Health and Safety

  • Be alert to hazards in any part of the shop and stores, report the same to the shop supervisors, floor manager or other senior management immediately.
  • Use all equipment in the manner it was designed.
  • Be aware of emergency procedures and be prepared to carry out established procedures in the event of an emergency.
  • Ensure the safety of customers and colleagues at all times.

G) Cash Register Procedures

  • Ensure the float is correct and that all keyed information into the POS terminal is done so accurately.
  • Process customer’s transactions efficiently.
  • Handling money/cheques/credit cards and any form of payment in a safe, secure and responsible manner.
  • Ensure cash and documentation is secure at all times.
  • Balance the cash at the end of the shift.

H) Equipment Failure

  • Inform the Duty Supervisor for immediate corrective action

  • Set example of company image by a high standard of personal appearance and attitude.
  • Ensure you are dressed in full company uniform at all times so as to present a professional image of the company.
  • Behave in a polite and business-like manner while on duty and show the highest regard for all our customers at all times.

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities - Sales Assistant

  • The Sales Assistant is responsible for selling merchandise to customers.
  • He/she must ensure that the retail policies and procedures are properly implemented in Duty Free - Oman.
  • He/she takes part in all company training as assigned.
